For innovative contributions to the precise determination of parton distribution and fragmentation functions, and for the development of cutting-edge software to perform global fits.
Valerio Bertone obtained his PhD in 2013 from the University of Freiburg. He held postdoctoral positions at CERN, the University of Oxford, Nikhef, the University of Pavia and IRFU Saclay. His physics interests focus on high-energy QCD and collider phenomenology with particular emphasis on QCD factorisation and the precise determination of the non-perturbative components, such as collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation functions (FFs), transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) distributions, and generalised parton distributions (GPDs). He is particularly interested in the computational aspects of these activities and in benefitting from the most modern numerical tools inspired by machine-learning techniques to extract information from data.
